A man who robbed a Bend cannabis dispensary at gunpoint and struck the clerk in the face with his gun after the weapon jammed was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years and five months in federal prison.
Russell Ian Boggess robbed Top Shelf Medicine on July 23, 2024, wearing a mask, armed with a 9mm pistol and carrying a garbage bag, according to federal prosecutors.
He pointed the gun at an employee working behind the counter and ordered her to “Put all the weed in the bag.” He then pointed the gun slightly away from the employee and pulled the trigger. The gun jammed and did not fire. Boggess attempted to rack the slide of the gun and fire it, but the gun jammed again, according to Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew C. Nelson.
