Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is speaking out amid the shocking news that his Marvel series Wonder Man has been canceled by Disney+, months after the streamer had renewed it for a second season.
The show debuted in January 2026 and received wide acclaim, including a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Two months later, the show got a renewal.
Now, the second season has been scapped. Variety reported that “a writers’ room for Season 2 was never opened and the show’s writers have been released to pursue other projects.”

Yahya spoke out in an Instagram post on Thursday (July 30).
Word just dropped that Wonder Man won’t be coming back for Season 2. (And if you don’t knowww, now ya knoww! ?) That’s life, right? Everything will shake out. I wanted to say thank you to everybody who WATCHED the show, ENJOYED the show, and SHARED that they enjoyed the show in some way or other. The show worked. And that’s my favorite thing about it. I could see it on the faces of the Youtube Reactors (because I watched along with y’all this time. Shoutout to y’all) and I can see in the messages I get saying how the show reminded some of you not to give up, and I feel it in the genuine love shared when I bump into some of you all during the day. So, thinking of you all today. I’m glad we got to be a part of something cool. Thank you for watching… And uhh… See you at the EMMYS.
Yahya earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance in Wonder Man.
Just because Wonder Man is canceled, does not mean the characters are permanently done in the MCU
A source added to Variety that the “characters featured in the series could still appear in other Marvel projects in the future.”
It’s a big year for Marvel. Tomorrow, the new Spider-Man film, Brand New Day, hits theaters. In December, the star-studded Avengers: Doomsday is set to debut.
