A shooting at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, left multiple people dead and several others injured, shocking the local community and prompting a large law enforcement response. Authorities continue to investigate the attack as officials work to determine a motive and identify the suspected gunman.

What Happened in the Idaho In-N-Out Shooting?

A gunman opened fire at a newly opened In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, on the afternoon of August 1, 2026, sending customers and employees scrambling for safety. Police responded to reports of gunfire at around 2:30 p.m. local time and found multiple victims inside and outside the restaurant.

Authorities said the shooter acted alone, and the FBI joined the investigation as detectives worked to piece together the events leading up to the attack. Police also credited an off-duty Idaho State Police trooper and an armed citizen with responding quickly, saying their actions likely prevented additional casualties.

Who Is the Suspect in the Idaho In-N-Out Shooting?

Police have identified the suspected gunman as 24-year-old Chad Williams, per NBC News. According to Twin Falls Police, Williams acted alone and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators have not determined a motive, and officials said they are continuing to examine evidence and interview witnesses to better understand what led to the shooting.

“We believe the threat to the community is over,” Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks said following the attack.

The FBI has also asked anyone with photos or videos from the scene to submit them as the investigation continues.

How Many People Died in the Twin Falls, Idaho, Shooting?

Authorities said three people were killed and seven others were injured in the shooting. As of August 2, two of the injured had been released from the hospital, while others remained in stable or critical condition. Officials have not yet publicly identified the victims because they are still notifying their families.

In-N-Out owner Lynsi Snyder confirmed that one of those killed was an employee.

“We lost one of our beautiful Associates tonight,” Snyder wrote on social media. “She was taking care of our most important asset — our Customers, and her life was taken by a disgusting human who doesn’t value the lives of others or his own.”
