Donald Trump has unveiled the $400 million jet that is becoming the new Air Force One.
The 80-year-old President of the United States revealed the new luxury Boeing 747 plane during an appearance at Joint Base Andrews on Friday (June 19) near Washington, D.C.
The plane was a gift from the Qatari government. While Qatar paid for the $400 million plane, the U.S. government will reportedly foot the bill for all the upgrades it needs, which could cost $1 billion, according to NBC News.
After Trump was criticized for accepting the gift from Qatar, he responded on Truth Social last year.
“Why should our military, and therefore our taxpayers, be forced to pay hundreds of millions of Dollars when they can get it for FREE from a country that wants to reward us for a job well done,” he said. “Only a FOOL would not accept this gift on behalf of our Country.”
While unveiling the plane, he told the crowd, “Everything was designed good. It was my taste, I will say. I like the color of the American flag, right? That makes sense.”
Trump was asked about plans for the old planes used for Air Force One.
“We’ll get them fixed up a little bit, not like this one, and we’ll do museums,” he said. “They’re great planes, they’re great history.”
