Trump admin loses another key staffer as White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson walks away

White House Deputy Press Secretary Abigail Jackson is leaving the Trump administration, marking the latest change in Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt‘s communications team. Jackson has served as the administration’s press liaison for the Justice Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Capitol.

Jackson’s final day at the White House will be August 7, 2026. She announced on July 29 that she is joining Republican public affairs firm OnMessage Public Strategies, ending a high-profile tenure as one of President Donald Trump‘s senior communications aides.

Confirming the move on X, Jackson wrote, “President Trump is the greatest President of my lifetime — it’s been a tremendous honor to work for his Administration and alongside such talented colleagues on behalf of the American people,” adding, “Looking forward to this next chapter!”

Lauren Bis, currently the Department of Homeland Security’s assistant secretary for public affairs, is expected to succeed Jackson as deputy press secretary.

Leavitt announced the move on X, writing, “We are very sad to see @abigailmarone go, but look forward to welcoming Lauren to our team.”

She added that Bis “has been a key player at DHS since day one and she will fit right in at the White House.”

Leavitt praised Jackson as “one of the best communicators in Republican politics,” saying she “played an invaluable role on my team, working closely with senior administration officials to shape press coverage and deliver President Trump’s message at the highest level.”

She also described Jackson as “a workhorse and someone you can always count on to get the job done.”

Senior Trump adviser Stephen Miller echoed that praise in a statement to the Daily Mail, calling Jackson a “communications powerhouse” who “has skillfully spearheaded messaging on many of the Administration’s most critical and celebrated policy initiatives and has earned universal praise and admiration from her peers and colleagues.”

Jackson’s career background

Jackson joined the White House as deputy press secretary in May 2025 and was named a special assistant to the president in January 2026.

Before joining the administration, she served as deputy communications director for the Republican National Committee and held several communications roles for Sen. Josh Hawley, eventually becoming his deputy chief of staff and communications director. She also worked for former Rep. Matt Rosendale and served as a rapid-response specialist on Trump’s presidential campaign.

Where Jackson is headed

Jackson is joining OnMessage Public Strategies, a Republican public affairs firm affiliated with GOP consulting firm OnMessage Inc. The company advises Republican campaigns and Fortune 500 businesses, though Jackson’s specific role has not been announced.

Broader turnover in Trump’s second year

Jackson’s departure comes amid broader personnel changes during Trump’s second year in office.

Former Attorney General Pam Bondi, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer have all left the administration. Former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard also stepped down in June 2026 to care for her husband during his cancer treatment.

Jackson’s move reflects a common Washington transition from the White House to the political consulting and public affairs sector after helping shape the administration’s messaging on issues including border security, Justice Department matters and congressional battles.
