Millie Calloway is going back to work. The Housemaid was one of the biggest surprise hits of 2025, pulling in over $401 million worldwide on a $35 million budget, and Lionsgate wasted no time greenlighting the sequel. The Housemaid’s Secret, based on the second novel in Freida McFadden‘s bestselling trilogy, will bring Sydney Sweeney back as the resourceful maid with more secrets than anyone she works for. And the cast around her just got even more interesting.

Find out everything we know about the sequel, from the new cast additions to the release date and plot details, below.

When Does ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ Come Out?

Lionsgate has set a theatrical release date of December 17, 2027, per The Hollywood Reporter. Production is expected to begin later in 2026. Paul Feig is returning to direct, and screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first book, wrote the sequel script as well.

Who Is in ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ Cast?

The cast keeps growing. Sweeney is back as Millie, and Michele Morrone returns as Enzo. On the new side, Kirsten Dunst and Paul Anthony Kelly are playing the Garricks, the wealthy couple Millie works for this time around. As of August 4, 2026, Brittany Snow joined the cast as Marybeth, an unassuming receptionist at the husband’s company, per Variety. Snow has been on a career tear lately between The Hunting Wives, Netflix’s The Beast in Me, and her memorable turn in Ti West’s X.

What Is ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ About?

The sequel adapts the second novel in McFadden’s trilogy. Millie takes a job keeping house for a new family, the Garricks, but this time there is a locked door she is never allowed to open and a woman she is never allowed to see. The book’s synopsis teases that behind that door are “secrets far darker than even the ones she herself keeps.” If the first film was about recognizing a monster hiding behind a charming smile, the sequel seems built around what happens when Millie goes looking for trouble on purpose.

Will Amanda Seyfried Return for ‘The Housemaid’ Sequel?

Probably not in a starring role, but do not count her out entirely. Amanda Seyfried, who played Nina in the first film, told Variety that she could see herself making a brief appearance. “I almost guarantee that I’m gonna be some small cameo in it, because it’s about Syd and her working for a new family,” she said. For fans of the book series, there is also plenty more source material ahead. McFadden’s trilogy includes a third novel, The Housemaid Is Watching, and a novella, The Housemaid’s Wedding, that bridges the gap between books two and three.
