Steven Spielberg is taking some time away from the director’s chair for a little relaxation.

The Jaws and Jurassic Park legend was spotted alongside his wife, Kate Capshaw, and their family out on the open sea off the coast of Monaco.

In photos obtained by Wonderwall.com, Spielberg can be seen soaking up the sun aboard a very luxurious yacht.

Spielberg was photographed climbing into a smaller boat, on which his son Theo was seated. The director kept things casual for the outing, pairing a button-down shirt with white pants.

He accessorized with sunglasses and a cream hat. As for his wife of nearly 35 years, Capshaw wore a black tank top under a cardigan, paired with white linen pants.

She finished off the look with sunglasses and several pieces of jewelry, including multiple necklaces and bracelets.

Theo also kept his outfit low-key, pairing a white T-shirt with black pants and a brown hat.

Family first

The family getaway comes just a few months after Spielberg opened up about how much Capshaw has changed his life.

During a panel at the 2026 SXSW Conference and Festival on March 13, the Oscar-winning filmmaker shared what he values most at this point.

“Kate has made such a life for me, and we brought seven kids into the world, two of them adopted. We now have six grandchildren. And that is the real stuff,” he said.

“It’s not the stuff that I fall back on when I’m not directing. Directing, actually, has, in the last 20 years, taken second position to my parenting and to all their needs. That paradigm has really changed, and it changed very quickly for me. And so that’s really my life,” he added.

Spielberg and Capshaw first met while working on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984 but didn’t start dating until years later. The two eventually tied the knot in October 1991, bringing their families together.

Capshaw became a stepmom to Spielberg’s son, Max, 40, from his previous marriage to Amy Irving. Meanwhile, the Disclosure Day director became a stepdad to her two kids: Jessica, 49, and Theo, 37.

The couple also welcomed four more children together: Sasha, 35, Sawyer, 32, Mikaela, 30, and Destry, 29.

Spielberg previously talked about choosing his family over his career.

Speaking with director S.S. Rajamouli for Reliance Entertainment in 2023, he revealed that he passed on directing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

“I sacrificed a great franchise, which, today looking back, I’m very happy to have done to be with my family,” Spielberg said.

“The choice I had to make in taking a job that would move me to another country for four or five months where I wouldn’t see my family every day … that was really a rending, ripping kind of experience,” he added.
