Patrick Dempsey is addressing speculation.
The 60-year-old Grey’s Anatomy actor confirmed he’s not running for a Senate seat in Maine amid speculation.
The rumors began after Democratic nominee Graham Platner announced he was withdrawing from the race against longtime Senator Susan Collins amid a sexual assault allegation, which he denies.
Patrick wrote an op-ed in the Portland Press Herald.
“I kept coming back to one question: Do I truly want to serve in Congress? After a lot of thought, I realized the answer is no. Not because public service isn’t honorable — it absolutely is. But because I believe I can contribute more effectively through the life I’ve already built,” he wrote.
He wrote that the new candidate should offer “a new approach to how we govern ourselves.”
“Most of all, I want integrity. That may sound idealistic today, but it shouldn’t,” he went on to say.
If you didn’t know, Patrick was born in Lewiston, Maine and has done philanthropic work in the state, including The Dempsey Center, pledging to make life better for people with cancer in Maine.
“The Dempsey Center has shown me what’s possible when people put aside differences and focus on helping one another. I’ve watched volunteers, healthcare professionals, small businesses, major corporations, donors and neighbors come together for one purpose: caring for people during some of the hardest moments of their lives. No one asks who you voted for before offering support. That’s the America I know. That’s what I want to see in the leader we send to the Senate,” he went on to write.
