Ja’Lynn Polk is ending his football career at the young age of 24.

The wide receiver was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2024 as a second-round pick and then he was traded to the New Orleans Saints for the 2025 season after suffering a shoulder injury.

Reports say that Polk was participating in the entire off-season training with the Saints in hopes of returning to football this year, but he was absent from training this past Friday.

New Orleans Football founder Nick Underhill broke the news online on Sunday (August 2), revealing that Polk made the decision to retire from the NFL.

“I’m told that Ja’Lynn Polk was healthy and happy with his role (he was getting significant snaps). He just decided the best path forward for himself was to step away,” he wrote.

ESPN reports that Saints coach Kellen Moore said that Polk had “been excused from the last two practices for personal reasons.”

In other NFL retirement news, a lot of people are wondering when Travis Kelce is going to end his playing career and a legend just gave some insight into the timeline.
