Rebel Wilson has secured a victory in a legal case with Charlotte MacInnes.

The Deb co-stars were in a legal battle over defamation, and on Wednesday (July 22), an Australian judge dismissed the case brought on by Charlotte against Rebel, according to CNN.

Charlotte claimed Rebel‘s social media posts caused her to be the “subject of abuse, hatred and ridicule online,” affecting her career prospects, but the judge disagreed.

Here’s how it started

Amid a legal battle with producers of The Deb, where she accused them of misconduct and trying to bury her directorial debut, Rebel made claims that Charlotte, the leading actress of the film, retracted her accusations of inappropriate behavior to get another job with one of the producers.

“When an actress on her first feature film is asked by a producer to stay in the same apartment as them, and then makes a complaint to me as the director saying said producer ‘asked her to have a bath and shower with her and it made her feel uncomfortable’ – what am I supposed to do? Of course I reported it. There is no world where this is acceptable,” Rebel said in her statement.

She continued, “The fact that this girl has been employed now by this ‘producer’ in the lead role of a production called GATSBY (ART Boston) and given a record label – should be all the proof you need as to why she has now changed her story.”

How Charlotte MacInnes responded

Nearly a year later, Charlotte filed her own legal documents against Rebel, accusing her of defamation for naming her in her lawsuit against the producers and sharing social media posts about her.

Back in April, the two attended a nine-day defamation hearing in Sydney, Australia.

Earlier this year, Rebel called out the producers of The Deb in a series of explosive Instagram posts amid their years-long ongoing legal battle.

Prior to that, most of her lawsuit against the producers was thrown out by a Los Angeles judge.
