Despite the inbuilt “dad energy” in most of his TV and movie roles, Jason Segel, 46, doesn’t actually have children yet — but that’s not because he simply doesn’t want them, FYI.
The How I Met Your Mother star is currently in the throes of wedding planning with his fiancée, Kayla Radomski, and he opened up about what’s next for them as a couple during a Shrinking Emmy FYC Event on June 6.
“It’s all going great,” Segel told People at the event. “I’m with the best person in the world.”
Commenting on whether he and Radomski want to start a family, he said, “Yeah, I’m going to have a real weird kid. It’ll be great. Yeah, I’ll have a moody, creative, puppet-y kid.”
Radomski shared the sweet news of her engagement to the Five-Year Engagement star back in June 2025, alongside a slideshow of photos from the betrothal.
She wrote on Instagram at the time, “FOREVER YES 💍♥️.”

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in April, Segel opened up about getting down on one knee.
“I got engaged at the botanical garden,” he explained, referring to the spot he likes to take long walks at to clear his head. “We had an early date there.
“My fiancée’s name is Kayla. She’s the best person on Earth.”
To keep his proposal plans under wraps, Segel came up with an elaborate scheme to throw Radomski off the scent.
“I told her — I’d set up, ‘I’m doing Shrinking right now, it’s very overwhelming, I’m not gonna be able to get engaged until we wrap,’” Segel explained. “But that was a lie! She accepted the lie. I did acting.”
“But it turns out I’m not very good at lying. So I told her, ‘Hey, in three weeks, there’s a donor dinner at the botanical gardens,’ but I’m not a donor! So as time went on, I really couldn’t hold this lie very well at all, so I kept adding things like, ‘I heard the mayor’s gonna be at the donor dinner.’ Then I said, ‘I heard the LA Times is coming to the donor dinner.’ By the time this night arrives, it sounds like a total chore, it sounds like a total drag we gotta go to.”
Then things got even weirder once the couple reached the destination.
“So we arrive. Huntington Gardens here in Pasadena, I showed up, and they also did acting,” the Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor said. “They didn’t tell me that they were gonna do this. They say, ‘Welcome to the donor dinner.’ They arranged it; it was after hours.”
As for the proposal itself, “My measure of if I’d done it right was if she burst into tears, which was a high mark. I wanted her to cry real hard. I wanted it to be the best moment of her life, you know,” Segel said. Initially, “there was only one tear,” but once the string quartet he’d arranged for started playing, the waterworks began.
Segel and Radomski started dating around 2023. She is a dancer and actress.
Though Segel has never been married before, he was previously linked to names, including Michelle Williams and Linda Cardellini, per Us Weekly.
