‘I have zero interest in running for president in 2028,’ says Jon Ossoff after he riled Trump with jab at president’s aide

Jon Ossoff insisted once again that he has “zero interest” in a 2028 presidential run after his latest attack on Donald Trump that involved one of the president’s closest aides.

While speaking to MS Now, he said, “I have zero interest in running for president in 2028 and frankly, zero interest in the 2028 fantasy football right now.”

His sharp attacks on Trump have turned Ossoff into a Democratic star, which makes people speculate about his political future. However, he demands that his supporters stay focused elsewhere.

“I don’t know that we have a free and fair election in 2028, unless we restore checks and balances in these 2026 midterm elections,” Ossoff added. “This needs to be all of our highest priority and our focus.”

Ossoff delivered a blistering speech in Atlanta that took aim at Trump’s leadership, the war with Iran and what he described as corruption inside the administration (via CNN).

During the rally, he also accused Trump of sleeping through meetings, golfing and trading stocks while U.S. sailors faced a record deployment aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln.

“He doesn’t want to do the job,” Ossoff said. “He wants to build his ballroom and travel with Natalie on their apparently defenseless flying palace gifted by the Emir of Qatar.”

The comment referred to Natalie Harp, Trump’s executive assistant and one of his most trusted personal aides, whom Ossoff labelled as the POTUS’ “human binkie.”

The remark reportedly prompted a reply from the president and his administration. Trump compared Ossoff to Pee-wee Herman when asked about the senator’s comments and said he “would much rather do other things.”

Even White House communications director Steven Cheung launched a personal attack against Ossoff on social media and spokesman Davis Ingle called the senator a “lightweight loser.”

Why people believe that Jon Ossoff might run for presidency

Though Ossoff has repeatedly denied any aspirations to run for president in 2028, his political profile continues to fuel speculation.

His viral campaign speeches, anti-corruption message and ability to appeal to different parts of the Democratic coalition have made people see him as a potential 2028 contender (via USA Today).

Ossoff is now 39 and the nation’s youngest senator. Moreover, he represents Georgia, a state Trump won in 2024, which makes his November reelection campaign one of the Democrats’ most closely watched Senate races.

His profile across the nation has also grown due to his confrontations with Trump because he repeatedly attacked the president over the Iraq War, corruption and the current administration’s handling of the economy.
