Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are not the first couple to get married at Madison Square Garden.
When news first broke that the 36-year-old pop star and the 36-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end made even bigger headlines than usual when it was revealed they were planning a huge ceremony at the iconic arena, but other notable celebrity couples have also tied knot in the same place.
Sly Stone and Kathy Silva
According to Elle Decor, Sly Stone and model Kathy Silva were the first wedding to happen at the arena, on June 5, 1974. The musician married Kathy onstage before he went on to perform a sold-out Sly and the Family Stone concert.
Mass wedding of the Unification Church
On July 1, 1982, a Guinness World Record would be broken at the arena when Reverend Sun Myung Moon officiated a mass wedding for over 2,000 couples! It became the largest wedding at one location.
According to Elle (via The New York Times), “Brides wore matching lace-and-satin gowns made by the church, and grooms wore matching suits,” and “many couples had just met through the church’s arranged matching process, with some using interpreters to communicate before getting married.”
