Donald Trump’s top aide is ‘incredibly devoted’ to him, wrote letters to the president that ‘alarmed’ Secret Service, Maggie Haberman says

The New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman said the Secret Service became “alarmed” by letters written to President Donald Trump by Natalie Harp, a White House aide known for her intense devotion to the president.

Haberman and fellow Times reporter Jonathan Swan first reported in 2024 that Harp, 35, who now serves as Trump’s White House executive assistant, had written a letter to Trump the previous year declaring, “You are all that matters to me.”

The Daily Beast later published that letter in full along with another letter from 2023. Author Michael Wolff obtained the letters while gathering material for a book about the 2024 election.

“I haven’t been myself, dwelling on the past and the pain of losing my dad and I started letting the remarks of people who haven’t bothered me before, get to me — not because I care what others think, but because I see myself being lowered in your eyes and good opinion,” Harp wrote. “That is the fear you see, because I never want to bring you anything but joy. I’m sorry I lost my focus. You are all that matters to me. I don’t want to ever let you down. Thank you for being my guardian and protector in this life.”

Harp signed the letter, “With all my heart.”

Quoting ‘Pride and Prejudice’

In another letter, Harp paraphrased Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

“I’ll never forget when you made that promise to me after losing my Dad and I know how happy he is right now that I did get to go to Scotland and Ireland, as he always wanted for me,” she wrote. “To modify a classic, ‘I could not have parted with you, to anyone less worthy’ — And, I will add, it is I who is unworthy.”

Secret Service concerns

Appearing on The Source, Haberman said the letters raised concerns with Trump’s security detail.

“Harp has carved out this role of being incredibly devoted to the president. She had left these letters for him in his personal spaces during the interregnum for four years. The Secret Service had gotten alarmed by some of them. That was notable. That was a campaign. That was different. She is now in the government. She sits 10 feet away from the president. She is a stream of information to him. He does rely on her. And I don’t expect that to change.”

Haberman said Harp’s role illustrates a significant difference between Trump’s current administration and his first term, describing her as an aide who provides the president with quick, unfiltered information and access to others.
