Demi Lovato makes surprise cameo in ‘Camp Rock 3’

Demi Lovato is back as Mitchie Torres in Camp Rock 3!

The movie premiere took place on Monday, August 10, with multiple outlets reporting that Lovato makes a surprise cameo in the long-awaited sequel to the beloved Disney Channel movie.

The star – who uses both she/her and they/them pronouns – was at the event and called it “so nostalgic and so healing to step into the role of Mitchie again.”

She continued, “I had the best time. This film obviously means so much to me. Camp Rock was the beginning of my journey in this industry, and so it’s just so great to be able to be back in this role.”

The “Sorry Not Sorry” singer also served as a producer on the film alongside all three Jonas Brothers: Joe Jonas, Kevin Jonas and Nick Jonas.

Speaking of the Jonas Brothers, they’re also central to the plot of the film, making their Disney Channel return as the fictional band Connect 3.

“We wanted to find the right balance of how much she should be in the film and what Mitchie’s involvement looked like,” director Veronica Rodriguez told The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere. “Her character literally says in the movie, to her mom, ‘This isn’t about me, it’s about them. It’s their time to shine. This is the new generation of campers.’ With Mitchie and Connect 3, we wanted them to be ingrained and necessary for the story but also leave enough room and space for the world to fall in love with the new generation of campers.”

Disney’s official synopsis reads, “When Connect 3 loses their opening act for a major reunion tour, they return to their beloved Camp Rock to discover the next big thing.”

Demi and the three brothers also reunited at the premiere, posing together and making OG fans extra nostalgic. The Sonny With a Chance alum stunned in a skintight, metallic, corseted dress.

Camp Rock first came out in 2008, while Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam was released in 2010.

In recent years, Demi has felt compelled to make amends for her behavior on the set of the second movie, which came after her rise to greater fame.

In their 2024 documentary Child Star, Demi apologized to their costar Alyson Stoner, who told them, “I do remember a sense of walking on eggshells [around you], and so there was definitely a lot of fear of a blow-up” (via Entertainment Weekly).

The musical artist replied, “I know that we both were going through our own stuff, but it still didn’t give me an excuse to treat anyone poorly, and so I just want to genuinely, deeply apologize for any stress or any walking on eggshells, any hurt feelings. I’m genuinely so sorry for that. And I look back at that time, and I have profound sadness, ’cause I’m like, ‘How many people did I treat poorly?’”

The star has been open about their struggles over the years with mental health and addiction.

Camp Rock 3 premieres August 13 on Disney Channel and August 14 on Disney+.
