Sara Foster is speaking out to defend her 76-year-old dad David Foster‘s relationship with wife Katharine McPhee, who is 35 years younger than him.
Sara, 45, spoke out while appearing on the new episode of Let’s Be Honest with Kristin Cavallari.
“She’s really amazing,” Sara said of her step-mother, Katharine.
“I have to tell you, she really is. It’s not easy coming into this family… Everyone has an opinion about something. And you know what? They’re like 12 years in and they are happy,” Sara added. “She’s a fully consenting lady, you know what I mean? This is not like some child bride. She is in her 40s.”
“I think it’s hard being a stepparent, obviously. I think you want to ride the line of wanting your partner’s kids to like you and wanting to show up as a motherly figure,” Sara said. “But you also have to have respect for the real mom … the biological mom. I think it’s a tough balance, and I think she does it really well.”
Sara noted that she has a more sisterly relationship with Katharine, 42.
“I am older than her,” she said. “I look at her as a sister, but like she is my stepmom. She’s my dad’s wife. So, I think it’s normal for her to come in and kind of take over in certain [situations] and she really doesn’t do that.”
Katharine and David just celebrated their wedding anniversary this week by traveling back to where they got married.
David is the father of daughter Allison, 55, who was given up for adoption as a baby but reconnected with him later in life; Amy, 52, with ex-wife BJ Cook; Sara, 45, Erin, 43, and Jordan, 40, all with ex-wife Rebecca Dyer, and five-year-old son Rennie with Katharine.
David was also previously married to Linda Thompson and was step-dad to her sons Brandon Jenner, 45, and Brody Jenner, 42. He was also previously married to Yolanda Hadid and was step-dad to her kids Gigi, 31, Bella, 29, and Anwar, 27.
