Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez are officially husband and wife.
The soccer superstar and model marked this milestone, capping a relationship that has seen them build a family, navigate the spotlight and endure the devastating loss of their newborn son.
The wedding ceremony
The soccer superstar, 41 and the model, 31, tied the knot in a private civil ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, on August 11.
A press release confirmed, “The ceremony was a private and intimate moment attended by their five children.”
Ronaldo later shared a photo of the couple’s hands, each wearing their wedding bands, on Instagram, captioning the post, “C❤️G.”
How Ronaldo proposed Rodríguez
Rodríguez announced their engagement on August 11, 2025. She posted a photo of her oval-cut diamond on Instagram and wrote, “Sí, quiero. En esta y en todas mis vidas,” which translates to, “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives.”
Months later, Ronaldo revealed how the proposal unfolded during an interview on Piers Morgan’s “Uncensored” podcast.
He recalled that the proposal happened around 1 a.m. while their daughters were sleeping. As he prepared to give Rodríguez the ring, their daughters unexpectedly walked into the room.
“They came in and said, ‘Daddy, you’re going to give the ring to mom and you’re going to ask her to get married,’” Ronaldo recalled. “And I said, ‘Wow, this was the right moment.’”
Ronaldo said the decision was about more than their children, emphasizing, “She’s the mother of my kids, but she’s the person I love. She’s the love of my life.”
Rodríguez later opened up about the surprise proposal during a December 2025 interview with Elle Spain. She admitted she was completely caught off guard, saying the proposal was “the last thing” on her mind at the time.
She also recalled being stunned by the size of her engagement ring, saying it took her until the next day to properly look at the “enormous stone” in the sunlight.
Later, Rodríguez joked that while the ring was “gorgeous,” it was “the least he could offer me after 10 years of waiting.”
The meet-cute
The two first crossed paths in a Gucci store in 2016 in Madrid. At the time, Rodríguez was working there as a sales assistant.
Their first major public appearance together was at the FIFA Best Awards in January 2017. Rodríguez later gave details about their early romance in her Netflix series I Am Georgina.
“One time he came in a Bugatti,” she said. “My co-workers couldn’t believe it.”
Ronaldo also spoke about their early days, saying that Rodríguez was a “very interesting girl, so much more mature for her age.”
He later admitted, “I didn’t think at the beginning that [the relationship] would be this strong, that I would fall in love with her. I didn’t expect it, honestly. But after a while, I felt that she was the woman of my life.”
Children and a heartbreaking loss
In November 2017, Rodríguez gave birth to their daughter, Alana Martina. Earlier that year, Ronaldo’s twins, Eva Maria and Mateo, had arrived via surrogate.
He also has an older son, Cristiano Jr., from a previous relationship.
In 2021, the duo announced they were expecting twins. However, in April 2022, only their daughter Bella survived, while their son, Ángel, died during childbirth.
“It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the death of our baby. It is the greatest pain any parent can feel,” they said in a joint statement on Instagram.
The couple asked for privacy as they mourned their son, while saying that the birth of their daughter gave them “some hope and happiness” during an otherwise devastating time.
