Aubrey Plaza shared a candid mirror selfie on her Instagram Stories on Saturday, July 25, showing off her growing baby bump. The 42-year-old Parks and Recreation alum is expecting her first child with partner Christopher Abbott and the couple confirmed the pregnancy in April.
Plaza’s due date has not been publicly announced, though she is due sometime this fall. In the mirror selfie, Plaza held her phone in one hand while lifting her tank top with the other, leaving her black pants unbuttoned.
The photo did not have a caption, but a separate slide from the same series of Instagram Stories showed Plaza and Abbott learning how to assemble a stroller with help from Bambi Baby CEO Enelio Ortega.
Plaza wrote over that image, “Muchas gracias Enelio @bambibabystore for teaching us something.”
Plaza’s representative first confirmed her pregnancy to People on April 7. A source told the outlet that the news came as “a beautiful surprise after an emotional year,” adding that the couple felt “very blessed.”
The actress addressed her pregnancy directly for the first time on an April 20 episode of the “SmartLess” podcast, telling hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes, “Well, there’s a baby inside of me.”
She continued, “I’ve always wanted to see what that’s all about, you know? It just seems so interesting, that whole thing.”
Abbott also spoke about the pregnancy in a May 18 appearance on Today, describing his packed schedule while balancing his Tony-nominated stage run with fatherhood. “It’s just too much. There’s too much going on,” he said, before adding, “This is the real role of life.”
The couple made their first public red-carpet appearance since the pregnancy announcement at the 2026 Tony Awards on June 7, walking the carpet at Radio City Music Hall in matching black-and-white looks.
Abbott was nominated for best actor in a featured role in a play for his performance in Death of a Salesman, alongside fellow nominees Danny Burstein, Brandon J. Dirden, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Richard Thomas.
Plaza and Abbott had known each other professionally for years before their relationship became public. They co-starred in the 2020 psychological thriller Black Bear and later shared the stage in the 2023 to 2024 Off-Broadway revival of Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, which marked Plaza’s stage debut.
Speaking to The New York Times in 2023 about working with Abbott, Plaza said, “He cares, but he also doesn’t care, it’s the best recipe for me for a scene partner.”
“It’s fun and it’s also good and it’s also safe. I like to just throw things out the window also and laugh and mess around and not take it so seriously. It’s a hard combo to come by,” Abbott added. “We’re both unafraid to be ugly and weird and strange.”
Plaza’s pregnancy news came roughly one year and three months after the death of Jeff Baena, her estranged husband. Baena, a film director and screenwriter, died by suicide on January 3, 2025, at the age of 47.
