Antigua – Man jailed for Cannabis

A Cashew Hill man has been sentenced to 12 months in prison after pleading guilty to a drug charge.

Pernod Samuel appeared before Justice John Spencer in the High Court of Justice and admitted to the offence. He was convicted in connection with over 15 pounds of cannabis valued over $30,000 found at Cashew Hill on May 13th 2023.

Police executed a search warrant at Samuel’s home which he shared with his wife and father and reportedly found a quantity of marijuana trees hanging on lines in the living room.

Officers also allegedly discovered a transparent plastic bag containing vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis and a vacuum sealer in a bedroom, along with a digital scale in a vehicle.

Samuel and his wife were initially charged with possession of cannabis, possession with intent to distribute, and drug trafficking. The prosecution later withdrew the indictment against the woman, and charges against Samuel’s father who was also initially detained were dropped earlier.
