Amanda Seyfried is speaking out about Sydney Sweeney.
If you don’t know, the 40-year-old Mean Girls star and 28-year-old Euphoria actress co-starred in 2025’s The Housemaid, just months after her controversial “Great Jeans” campaign.
If you did not see, this past summer summer, American Eagle launched their Fall 2025 campaign, “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans.” However, in some ads, “Jeans” had been crossed out and replaced with “Genes,” causing controversy. Many accused American Eagle of promoting “eugenics,” since Sydney is white, blonde, and blue-eyed.
Amanda Seyfriend revealed how the press tour went with Sydney Sweeney
“We had a great time on the press tour,” she shared with British GQ. The writer of the piece noted that the controversy “must’ve made promoting The Housemaid complicated.”
“We worked really hard and she seemed to be having fun, but I also understood that probably it can’t be f-king easy, where she found herself… I have heard her stand up for herself, but I think she found herself between a rock and a hard place,” Amanda continued.
She was asked how she helped support her co-star
Amanda responded, “I’m just there. I don’t talk to her about it unless she wants to talk about it. I don’t want to be a source of anything, but whatever you need. You need some fun, you need to laugh, you need cake with me? That’s fine… at the same time, I’m like, ‘We’ve got to promote this movie and I can be a safe space.’”
Here’s what Sydney said about the original controversial campaign.
