There’s a reason Whoopi Goldberg has won multiple Golden Globes and Oscars.
On Thursday, June 11, The View cohost pretended to faint on stage in front of a live audience. The dramatic moment came after the panel walked out to the Hot Topics table to celebrate the New York Knicks’ historic Game 4 NBA Finals win.
Faux faint
The studio audience applauded as the cohosts took their seats, with Goldberg, Sara Haines and Sunny Hostin all wearing Knicks shirts in honor of the victory.
“Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute!” Goldberg said as the crowd cheered. “Just hold on a second! Did you see what happened at the Garden last night?” She then fell back in her chair in mock shock.
Goldberg has staged similar on-air “collapses” before, including in conversations about Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, Donald Trump and the Real Housewives franchise.
‘Greatest game I’ve ever witnessed’
Goldberg was in the building Wednesday night when the Knicks pulled off what seemed impossible — recovering from a 29-point deficit to beat the San Antonio Spurs 107-106, taking a 3-1 series lead in the NBA Finals.
“The Knicks scored the greatest comeback in NBA history,” she told the audience. “This was the greatest game and the worst game. It was all in one, but, for me, the greatest game I’ve ever witnessed in my life as a fan of any sport.”
“This goes down, for me, as the greatest game ever played,” she added.
Panel turns to NBA stars
Goldberg and Hostin then stood up from the table to reenact a few of the previous night’s game-winning plays.
“This was the greatest way to say to people it ain’t over until it’s over, until the hefty person sings, until the woman with the big feet sings, it doesn’t matter, it’s never over until it’s over, and don’t give up,” the Sister Act star said.
“You saw what they did. They played poorly and those refs, y’all, because you were making calls nobody ever heard of before.”
Knicks loyalist
Goldberg has helped bring sports into The View as a longtime fan of the Knicks.
In May, she walked out to the set holding a broom to celebrate the team sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers and advancing to the Finals for the first time since 1999.
“I just wanted to finish sweeping this up right here. Is that the sweep? Yeah!” Goldberg said as the audience cheered. She later added, “We want to start off by congratulating the New York Knicks for making it to the NBA Finals for the first time in 27 years after sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers.”
