Press Release
Melbourne, Victoria Aug 17, 2026 (Issuewire.com) – Psychedelics.media is launching a global writing competition during Global Psychedelic Week, 2–8 November 2026, inviting emerging writers, journalists, students, researchers, clinicians and anyone with an interest in psychedelic medicine to submit their own take on the future of the field.
Emerging writers invited to submit original articles for the chance to win VIP access to PRS27
The brief is deliberately simple:
Write a 1,000-word original article about psychedelic medicine.
The subject is entirely up to the writer.
There is no prescribed question, theme or editorial angle. Entrants can explore clinical research, psychedelic-assisted therapy, drug development, regulation, patient access, psychiatry, mental health, healthcare delivery, ethics, investment, science or any emerging issue they believe deserves greater attention.
And writers can enter as many times as they like.
“We don’t want to tell writers what to write about. We want to discover what they think is important,” said Gary Mackenzie, Editor of Psychedelics.media and Executive Producer of PRS27.
“The psychedelic medicine sector is developing incredibly quickly. There is a huge need for writers who can ask good questions, understand the evidence, challenge assumptions and communicate what’s happening to a broader audience. We’re looking for those voices.”
A competition that becomes an editorial series
The competition will run in the lead-up to Global Psychedelic Week.
Throughout the competition, Psychedelics.media will select standout entries for publication, giving emerging writers the opportunity to see their work published and promoted to an audience following the global psychedelic medicine sector.
Selected articles will form an ongoing editorial series building towards Global Psychedelic Week in November.
Being selected for publication does not mean the writer has won the competition. The published articles will be considered alongside all eligible entries when the final judging takes place.
The overall winner and runner-up will be announced during Global Psychedelic Week, 2–8 November 2026.
The PRS27 prizes
The first prize is a VIP Ticket to PRS27 valued at A$1,495.
The runner-up will receive a Standard Ticket valued at A$695.
The winning article will also be published on Psychedelics.media.
PRS27, Australia’s Psychedelic Medicine & Mental Health Symposium, takes place in Melbourne on 19–20 March 2027.
The two-day symposium will bring together clinicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, researchers, drug developers, investors, policymakers, entrepreneurs and healthcare professionals to examine the next phase of psychedelic medicine.
The program will explore clinical implementation, research, practitioner training, regulatory pathways, healthcare delivery, drug development, investment, ethics, governance and emerging technologies.
For the competition winner, the prize provides an opportunity to attend PRS27 and connect with the people shaping the future of psychedelic medicine.
Why psychedelic medicine needs new voices
Psychedelic medicine is moving through a period of significant change.
Clinical evidence continues to develop. Regulatory frameworks are evolving. Drug developers are advancing new therapeutic approaches. Healthcare providers are examining how psychedelic-assisted treatments might be delivered in real-world settings, while investors and policymakers are assessing the potential opportunities and challenges.
With that development comes an increasing need for high-quality journalism and analysis.
The competition is designed to find writers who can contribute to that conversation.
“You don’t need to be an established journalist,” Mackenzie said. “You don’t need to already work in the psychedelic industry. If you have something intelligent, original and compelling to say about psychedelic medicine, we want to read it.”
Global Psychedelic Week
The competition will culminate during Global Psychedelic Week, 2–8 November 2026, an international week bringing together the psychedelic community through events, discussions and initiatives around the world.
By launching the competition during the week, Psychedelics.media aims to create a platform for new voices while connecting emerging writers with the wider professional psychedelic medicine community.
