Ariana Grande to step back from public eye after tour amid rising concerns about her health

Ariana Grande plans to step away from public life after wrapping her Eternal Sunshine Tour, her representative confirmed.

“Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour,” a source told People.

Her representative confirmed the news on August 2 after months of public commentary about Grande’s appearance, following the release of Wicked.

“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,” they added.

Public speculation about Grande’s health resurfaced after the release of her “Petal” music video, with some fans commenting on her appearance online.

“She performs a very physical show and there is a lot of athleticism involved. She performs healthily and successfully at a very high level night after night,” the source clarified.

Her break will also mark her exit from the West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George.

Empire Street Productions, the company behind the Sunday in the Park with George revival, confirmed separately to Press Association that Grande had withdrawn from the production.

“We know this cannot have been an easy decision and she makes it with our complete understanding and support,” the company said in their statement. “We wish her nothing but the best. The production will open at the Barbican in summer 2027 as planned and casting will be announced in due course.”

The show was scheduled to open at London’s Barbican Centre in summer 2027, with Grande’s Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey originally set to star opposite her.

The actress has been under scrutiny ever since she starred in Wicked, when fans compared her health and body to previous images, drawing a significant contrast. Many voiced concerns that she is not eating well or is possibly under medications, something she herself addressed in 2024.

Speaking to Salima Jeanne Poumbga, the “Supernatural” singer talked about how this is something she has dealt with since she was a teenager, adding, “so I have heard it all. I’ve heard every version of it—of what’s wrong with me—and then you fix it and then it’s wrong for different reasons.”

“I think it’s something that’s uncomfortable no matter what scale you’re experiencing it on. Even if you go to a Thanksgiving dinner and someone’s granny says, ‘Oh my God, you look skinnier! What happened?’ or ‘You look heavier! What happened?’ It’s like, that is something that is uncomfortable and horrible no matter where it’s happening,” she continued.

She also shared that people are way more comfortable commenting on other people’s bodies than they should and “that I think is really dangerous. And I think it’s dangerous for all parties involved.”

The Eternal Sunshine tour is set to conclude in September.
