King Charles III‘s efforts to repair the royal family’s fractured relationship with Prince Harry have sparked new tension with his heir, a new report reveals.
An insider who spoke to Heat claimed Prince William is furious that Charles wants to reconcile with his younger son ahead of Harry’s planned July trip to Britain.
“William is still livid and can’t understand why his father keeps extending olive branches,” the insider claimed. “As far as he’s concerned, Harry is beyond hope.”
The clash comes ahead of Harry’s plans to visit the U.K. — this time with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet — for one-year-to-go countdown events ahead of the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, England.
Widespread reports indicate Charles has invited the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their children to stay at a royal residence, where they would receive around-the-clock security while on the estate.
Harry’s years-long battle over publicly funded police protection, however, continues to hang over the visit. The British army veteran has long argued that he can’t safely bring Meghan and their children to his homeland without access to police intelligence and protection after losing his automatic taxpayer-funded security when he stepped back as a working royal in 2020.
Bringing the brothers together
The king has decided the years-long family feud has gone on long enough, the insider claimed, and believes Harry’s upcoming visit could offer a rare opportunity to bring his sons together after years of estrangement.
“Charles has become increasingly emotional about the situation between William and Harry because, from his point of view, far too much time has already been lost,” the insider told Heat, adding that the king is convinced “somebody has to step in” if the family is ever going to heal.
At this point, Charles has “dug his heels in,” the insider added, believing “the feud is damaging the family far more than any awkward reunion ever could.”
According to the insider, the king wants his sons to meet face-to-face. “Charles is determined to force it through,” the insider told Heat.
“He’s certain that Harry can be talked into it, and once they’re in the same room, it’ll be a case of them finally opening their hearts and dropping their respective grievances, preferably one-on-one, though he is more than willing to sit in and act as a de facto mediator,” if that’s what it takes to finally get the Prince of Wales talking to his brother again.
Harry has already made it clear he wants peace. During a May 2025 BBC interview, he said he longed for “reconciliation” with his family, adding, “There’s no point continuing to fight anymore. Life is precious.”
The Prince of Wales isn’t convinced
William, however, reportedly remains deeply skeptical.
According to the insider, both he and Queen Camilla think welcoming Harry and Meghan back into the royal fold would be a mistake.
“William and Camilla think the whole idea is complete lunacy,” the insider told Heat. “They’ve both warned Charles countless times that he’s setting himself up for disaster; that Harry and Meghan can’t be trusted.”
William believes his younger brother crossed a line and “disrespected the crown to an unprecedented and unforgivable degree,” the insider said, by publicly airing the family’s private disputes in interviews, the 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan and Harry’s bestselling 2023 memoir, Spare, leaving William “totally dead set against any face time whatsoever.”
The clock is ticking
According to the insider, Charles’ cancer battle — he was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of the disease in 2024 — has only strengthened the king’s determination to try to heal the family divide.
The monarch would like to remind both of his sons “that life is too short for grudges,” the insider told Heat, while also emphasizing “the painful reality” that he’s still undergoing treatment.
Peace between his sons is Charles’ “greatest wish,” the insider said, and the king remains optimistic he’ll eventually be able to convince William to take part in a reconciliation.
William, however, doubts that. “His father can push for him to meet with Harry all he wants,” the insider told Heat. “He’s simply not interested, and it’s hard to see his position changing.”
Russell Myers, royal editor for Britain’s Daily Mirror, echoed that sentiment during a recent appearance on ITV’s Loose Women. William “will never reconcile” with his brother, Myers said.
“Make no mistake that their relationship is the worst it’s ever been and I see no chance of a reconciliation,” Myers added.
“We’ve seen Harry speaking about wanting a reconciliation with his father, and there is a willingness from both sides to fix their relationship,” the royal expert said. But William, wife Kate Middleton “and other members of the royal family feel deeply hurt by everything Harry has said in the past about The Firm.”
